The National Reptile & Amphibian Advisory Council (NRAAC) is a not-for-profit educational organization, staffed and run by volunteers, dedicated to producing an annual symposium on laws, rules, and regulations regarding reptiles and amphibians at the local, state, national, and international levels.

Our goal is bringing together people interested in reptiles, amphibians, and the law, whether they are pet owners, breeders, stores, businesses, rescues, rehabiltators, educators, researchers, zoological institutions, herpetolgical organizations, or government agencies,to discuss the impact of law and regulation on the keeping, breeding, care, and conservation of reptiles and amphibians. To get involved, please join our working group on Facebook.

Committees

NRAAC Committees are comprised of volunteers that determine the direction of the organization and it's events, as well as determining panelists and managing such things as marketing and funding. Committee members may be professionals or hobbyists, and represent a variety of facets and skill sets within the community.

Anyone with an interest in reptiles, amphibians and the law is welcome to volunteer for a committee. The majority of committee work is email based and can be done during off hours. Committee members do not have to participate in the actual Reptile and Amphibian Law Symposium to assist us in it's successful production. To volunteer your services for a committee, please contact us.

As we grow we expect our committees to grow in number as well and hope to have working groups based around animal groups, species, and specific issues as the need arises in the future.

Current Committees

Steering - The steering committee is the main decision-making body responsible for the overall direction, operation, and administration of the National Reptile and Amphibian Advisory Council and its annual Reptile and Amphibian Law Symposium.

Finance - The finance committee is responsible for the administrative and operating tasks of the business side of our organization and event. It will be their responsibility to legally register our organization as a business entity, likely an LLC, and then to apply for, achieve, and maintain a Section 501(c)(3) exemption for our organization, if applicable. Additionally they will be responsible for management and disbursement of any funds received via donations and grants, for the operation of our organization and event.

Marketing/Communications - the Marketing and Communications Committee is responsible for marketing our event to both attendees and possible panelists through various new, social, and traditional media channels. We need volunteers with clear, concise, communications skills who are familiar with reptile media as well as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other social platforms.

It is their responsibility to assist our finance committee in legally registering our organization as a business entity, likely an LLC, and then to assist in the appllication for, achievement and maintenance of a Section 501(c)(3) exemption for our organization, if applicable. Additionally they will provide a secondary overview of disbursement of any funds received via donations and grants for the operation of our organization and event, as required.
